Lake O’Hara Trails Club
Board of Directors 2020– 2021

Caroline Marion, President (Canmore)
Caroline retired from Parks Canada in 2015, after 19 years in various positions on the Kootenay/Yoho/Lake Louise field unit’s Management Team.  During her time with Parks Canada, she spent many glorious days hiking in the Lake O’Hara area, one of the most beautiful place in the Canadian Rockies and indeed the world, in her humble opinion.  She is looking forward to working with Parks Canada and the Trails Club board, its members, and its volunteers.  We all share the same goal, to ensure that this beloved area retains its pristine character while continuing to welcome visitors to this special place.

Penney Gaul, Secretary (Canmore)
Penney has had the opportunity to enjoy the Lake O’Hara area for more than 30 years – hiking in the summer and skiing in the winter.  It is one of her favorite places in the world. Closing in on retirement from the medical field and having more time to give back, Penney is grateful for the opportunity to serve on the LOTC board and work with a group of people who share the common goal of preserving and maintaining  this very  special place for everyone to enjoy.

Hailey Monod (Banff)
Born in Banff Alberta, Hailey comes from a family with a history and passion for the outdoors. Her first trip to Lake O’Hara was at the age of 5; and she has been enjoying the area in both summer and winter since then. With a background in Geographic Information Systems and dedication to her hometown, Hailey currently works for the Town of Banff. As a new member of the Lake O’Hara Trails Club, she is honoured for the opportunity to work with a team of people in pursuit of preservation and education of this exceptional mountain environment.

Debra Hornsby, Newsletter/Website Editor (Banff)
Debra Hornsby worked in communications for over 30 years, including stints as a CBC Radio producer, Public Information Manager at the Town of Banff, and as Director of Communications at The Banff Centre. In 2012, she came to her senses and retired, and now spends her time hiking, skiing, biking and running. When she isn’t heading down a trail, she works part-time as a road warrior for the Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival. She counts Lake O’Hara and its trails as one of her favourite places in the world, and is proud to contribute to the appreciation and preservation of this exceptional environment.

Lara Seward-Guenette (Canmore)

Lara moved to Banff in 1998 and quickly discovered the magic of Lake O'Hara. In fact, she skied into Lake O'Hara on an early date with her now-husband, so it holds an extra-special place in her heart. In her free time, Lara loves hiking, backpacking, and all forms of skiing. Lara has a background in tourism, administration, and project management. New to the board, she is excited to contribute to the club's efforts to protect and preserve this beautiful place

Lonnie Wake (Golden)
Lonnie has been lucky to spend much of her life at Lake O’Hara — it holds a special place in her heart, as it does for so many others. Whether hiking the trails, admiring the views, or helping to welcome visitors to the area through her work with the Trails Club and at Lake O’Hara Lodge, there is no place she would rather be. She is thrilled to participate as a director of the Trails Club, and work with all the other dedicated individuals on the Board to continue the appreciation and preservation of this incredible area.

Susan Webb, Vice Chair, Trails Committee Chair (Canmore)
Sue is never happier than when out hiking, so a position on the Trails Club Board was a natural fit. Born in Banff, Sue recalls many happy hiking trips to O’Hara with her family. She worked as a recreation programmer and planner with the Town of Banff for 26 years before retiring to spend as much time outdoors as possible. Trail design, construction, and signage are particular interests for Sue.
